How Long Does Countertop Installation Take?

Countertop installation sounds simple on paper. Remove the old surface, install the new one, and get back to normal life.

But anyone who’s lived without countertops, even briefly, knows how disruptive that gap can be. No prep space. No sink. No place to set anything down.

That’s why homeowners tend to fixate on countertop installation timelines. Not because they’re impatient, but because countertops mean the difference between a kitchen that’s almost done and one you can actually use.

Here’s what the installation process really looks like, and where most of the time goes.

Countertop Installation: Timelines & What to Expect

With experienced countertop installers, the installation typically takes only one day. But here’s the thing: from start to finish, the entire process usually falls into the two-to-four-week range.

That time isn’t spent installing countertops. It’s been spent making sure everything is done right before installation day. Here’s what the process looks like:

Consultation

Most people come to us with a clear idea of what they want, whether it’s a certain look, a specific material, or a picture they’ve saved. That’s a great starting point. What isn’t always obvious is how those choices affect the rest of the project, including budget, lead time, and the overall cost of kitchen countertop installation.

That’s why we offer free design and consultation services. The goal isn’t to steer you toward something else. It’s to help shape the project around what you want, what your space needs, and what fits your budget before anything gets locked in.

Measuring

Next, we visit your home and take precise measurements.

This step is usually quick and painless, but it’s a major milestone. Those measurements determine:

  • How your countertops are fabricated
  • Where seams fall
  • How sinks and appliances fit
  • How does everything line up with your cabinets

Fabrication

Once measurements are finalized, we start fabrication.

This is where your countertops are cut, shaped, polished, and finished to exact measurements taken in your home. Depending on the material you’ve chosen and the complexity of the design, this phase typically takes one to three weeks.

Because fabrication happens behind the scenes, this is often the quietest part of the process. But it’s also where most of the time is spent.

Installation Day

This is usually the most straightforward part of the process.

Our installers handle the work, clean up when they’re finished, and leave the space in good shape. If everything else is ready (plumbing and fixtures), your kitchen is often usable again the same day.

What Can Affect the Timeline?

While most projects fall into the two-to-four-week range, a few factors can extend or shorten the timeline:

  • Material availability: Some materials are readily available, while others require longer lead times.
  • Design details: Specialty edge profiles, seams, or custom cutouts take additional fabrication time.
  • Jobsite readiness: Cabinets must be fully installed and level before measurements can be taken.
  • Other trades: Plumbing or electrical work may need to be completed before installation day.
